Insider Review -   June 8, 2012

Mizuno’s wonderful wedges always seem to get lost in all the talk about Cleveland and Titleist Vokey models. These are sort of underdogs, because they’re every bit as effective performance-wise as any on the market. These are shaped specifically for each loft. Lower lofts are shaped to progress seamlessly from a standard pitching wedge, while higher lofts have what the company calls a more specialist shaping, with the C-Grind sole allowing for more versatility. Overall, they have a rounder look than many wedges out there. There’s no straight leading edge, which gives you the ability to open and close the face for more versatility. Quad Cut grooves generate plenty of spin and soft feel. Higher lofts have wider/shallower grooves to give traction to shorter strokes, while the grooves in the lower lofts are narrower and deeper, so when you take full swings and compress the ball, you’ll get more backspin. That’s a good, thoughtful design. The darker finish on these looks great.
