Nike SumoThis week’s selection is the Nike Sumo 2 Squared driver.
It features a powerful new square geometry to deliver the highest MOI of any driver on the market at 5300 g cm2. Sumo 2 stands for super moment of inertia squared. To achieve this radical geometry, Nike utilizes a multi-material construction with a composite crown to save weight vs. a conventional titanium crown. The SUMO² is the ultimate driver for distance, forgiveness, and accuracy. This driver is also the widest driver on the field for early 2007 at 4.9 inches in front-to-back depth (US Golf Association's limit is 5 inches).

I had the opportunity to hit this exciting new driver and from a personal standpoint, I can tell you that it will change the way you play golf. You will definately play from the fairway more often. This new geometry isn't just for the present time, it will affect the way clubs are built in the future. It got the ball up in the air faster than most drivers that I have hit and also stayed in the air longer. This obviously created a long and straighter shot. Off center hits, which I know I had some, found more of the short grass than other drivers that I had hit off center.

The one element that will take some getting use to is the sound. If you like for your driver to sound like an explosion when you hit it, then this is the one for you. It has an incredible sound on impact. My advice, give one of these a shot and see for yourself what you think. This new geometry will make golf more fun and enjoyable because you should be shooting lower scores.
